Hello there,
just wondering will a digital 1w temperature sensor DS18B20 work connected to the INPUT3 on the automation pHAT?

If so how?

1-Wire defaults to BCM4 on the Pi, you’d be better off using that pin directly if you can. It’s pretty likely that the protection circuitry on the inputs of Automation pHAT will completely break the 1-Wire bus, either by inhibiting parasitic power or the signal itself.

So is the design of the digital input ports on the board just for on/off, high/low signals?

They are intended just for high/low input signals; they have an inline 20k ohm resistor and 3.3v zener diode to ground.
