Cannot connect galactic unicorn pico w to osx - "allow accessory to connect" appears briefly

Hi folks,

I’ve got a MacBook Air M1, 8GB, Ventura 13.3.

When I connect the pico (with a USB C male to A female converter) and hold down bootsel, osx extremely briefly shows an “Allow Accessory To Connect” popup, too fast for me to select anything. Nothing appears in finder.

When I don’t hold bootsel, the galactic unicorn powers up and runs fine.

Any idea what’s wrong?

ok I rebooted the MacBook and it’s fine now. I’ll leave this post as a monument to my Not Trying The Obvious Thing First and also for future people.
