Hello,

I was using Pirate Audio: Headphone Amp for Raspberry Pi and it was working perfectly like a charm. But recently it doesn’t works no more and get some errors.

So I do a fresh install of mopidy (I was using raspotify) but sound it still doesn’t working.

lsb\_release -a says :

```auto
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Debian
Description: Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye)
Release: 11
```

aplay -L says

```auto
```

I tried aplay -D sndrpihifiberry and get :

```auto
ALSA lib pcm.c:2660:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM sndrpihifiberry
aplay: main:830: audio open error: No such file or directory
```

In /boot/config.txt I have :

```auto
dtparam=audio=on
gpio=25=op,dh
dtoverlay=hifiberry-dac
```

Could you help me getting my sound back ?

Sincerely,
Jerome

I think you mixed up your alsa configuration. Looking at your list, you have multiple “default” and “sysdefault” entries.

You should also check your config.txt. I did not try this, but with a similar problem in a different forum the suggestion was to use:

```auto
dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,noaudio
```

This might get rid of the vc4-hdmi stuff that aplay -L shows.

Hello,

I update the config file as you say and now the content is :

So have you tried to change some settings? E.g. switch to “F3-Playback”, or even select a different soundcard with F6? What do you see? Does any of the soundcards have a control setting (volume)?

F3, F4, F5 change nothing

Watching this thread with interest because I also have no sound on my new Audio Dac Shim on a Pi Zero 2W , have tried with both bullseye and bookwork, not as comprehesively as this new user. Using speaker-test with no audio.

Ok, I did test this with a first-generation Pirate-Audio-Speaker HAT using my own project “Pi-Webradio”:

- Install the latest PiOS 64bit lite on my Pi-Zero-2W (version 2024-10-22)
- `git clone https://github.com/bablokb/pi-webradio.git`
- `cd pi-webradio`
- `git switch next`
- `sudo tools/install myusername`
- `sudo tools/install-pirate-audio`
- `sudo reboot`

It just works, i.e. after the reboot I can run `speaker-test` or `pi-webradio.py -p 5` (play channel 5) or `mpg123 http://orf-live.ors-shoutcast.at/oe1-q2a`.

I don’t think you have to repeat all of this. The only difference in my configuration compared to yours that I can see is that I turned standard audio off, i.e.

```auto
dtparam=audio=off
```

So that is the first thing you should try.

Hi - so created a new install of Raspberry OS lite 32 bit using the PI Imager.
Logged in with SSH, and updated the /boot/firmware/config.txt as follows:

…

`# dtparam=audio=on`

dtoverlay=hifiberry-dac

Everything else left at defaults.
After reboot, raspi-config shows the audio device:

 ![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex016/uploads/pimoroni/original/2X/7/7abfc485eb5b71bc08ac26a9931c91ca74d355fc.png)

but when I run speaker-test, I get the logging of the different tests, but no audio.

Alsamixer shows following:

I wonder if the nice guys from Pimoroni can read this post :

And comment - perhaps the shim needs some config to work with the newer Pipewire (a bit beyond my understanding ?)

Did you add this line? And you also have to make sure these configs are below a “[all]” stanza, else they won’t be relevant for your system. And I would also explicitly set

```auto
dtparam=audio=off
```

This _might_ not be necessary, but since I don’t know the default for `dtparam=audio`, I explicitly set it to off.

I checked the lite-installation and did not find any pipewire (or pulse-audio) packages, so this should not be the problem. And your alsamixer output is fine.

Maybe you can start with a fresh install of PiOS lite. I have no idea what mopidity does, but to find a solution you have to start step by step:

- fresh install of PiOS lite
- update config.txt with reboot
- check

You can also run `dpkg -l | grep -i pipewire` and `dpkg -l | grep -i pulse` to verify that after the fresh installation there are no other sound-systems but alsa installed. That is what I did after installing Bookworm-arm64.
