Hi folks,

**SOLUTION: MY SOLDERING WAS AT FAULT! New SpeakerpHAT works perfect (after a lot of soldering exercises!)**

Have looked through the threads - found no obvious workaround / solution in getting my SpeakerpHAT to sing…

I’m running it on a Pi Zero W with latest Stretch-Lite distro. Soldering seems to have gone fine. I installed the ‘one line installer’ and ran ./test.sh.

Output was as follows -

```
testing audio
speaker-test 1.1.3
Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
WAV file(s)
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 96 to 1048576
Period size range from 32 to 349526
Using max buffer size 1048576
Periods = 4
was set period_size = 262144
was set buffer_size = 1048576
 0 - Front Left
 1 - Front Right
Time per period = 3.176435
testing basic wav playback
Playing WAVE './test.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo
testing text-to-speech
testing VU meter
```

VU meter works fine, but no sound at all and no heat from the speaker either.

**Any suggestions as to where to turn next?**

Regards,

Michael

I have to ask the obvious just to rule it out ;) Speaker jumper wires soldered in?

Yeap -

Soldering speaker with the supplied gauge wire was easier than the header. I’ll post a pic or two later…

Anything else i need to do / . debug, get log file etc??

Cheers,

Michael

On my Pirate Radio (pHat Beat) I ran the following
sudo systemctl stop pulseaudio
speaker-test -c2 -t wav

I don’t know if you have to stop pulseaudio, I did at that time running I think Jessie. I need to keep better notes.

@alphanumeric

Tried that, but only got the **smallest of feeble sounds** by having my ear right next to the speaker!

Have attached photos of the soldering done - [https://photos.app.goo.gl/g9ogRvROvvOqJsrw1](https://photos.app.goo.gl/g9ogRvROvvOqJsrw1)

I guess I’ll ask #Pimoroni for a replacement.

The soldering of the GPIO header isn’t the best. The speaker phat pinout is here,

You may want to redo those pins.

I have the pHat Beat and run mine as a Pirate Radio (VLC radio).
