# Trying to get Skywriter working

I bought a skywriter and I am trying to get it to work on my raspberry pi 2 B. Starting from a clean install of raspbian jesse and directions on the pimoroni support site on github I began with:

% curl -sS | bash  
% cd Pimoroni  
% cd skywriter  
% cd examples  
% sudo python [test.py](http://test.py)

Nothing happens. No response to waving over or touching the SkyWriter.

So my next thought was to make sure all is updated:

% sudo apt-get update  
% sudo apt-get upgrade  
% sudo rpi-update  
% sudo reboot

% sudo python [test.py](http://test.py)

Based on other posts to the forum, I can provide this:

% sudo i2cdetect -y 1

So that looks like there is something out there, but I don’t really know what the correct content should be or how to interpret this data.

I saw that there was a firmware upgrade in 2016 posted to the forum here. On a hunch I tried upgrading using that and the firmware update program indicates that the firmware update failed.

Any suggestions on how to get the skywriter working?

ok, the “curl” command contained the URL for the download, but the forum would not let me include it.
