Old school UNIX hacker, with 20+ years as a systems engineer at Sun Microsystems (including the Solaris kernel group). Degree in Microelectronics & Computing (Aberystwyth 1986).
“We didn’t have any these namby-pamby microcontrollers with high level programming languages in my day. No, we used to Vero-wrap Z80 boards with our bare hands, and write code in hexadecimal. Tell the young people that today …”
Since leaving Sun in 2009, I’ve been working as an independent system performance consultant. These days it’s lots of Linux, FreeBSD, and mcOS, but still plenty of Solaris on SPARC.
Co-wrote libMicro, have a patent for large memory optimisation, and still enjoying ZFS, DTrace and bpftrace.
Pimoroni fan for since 2015 (rainbow cases, Unicorn Hat, Enviro Indoor, Environ Urban, Galactic Unicorn, Wireless Plasma, …)
