when the Badger2350 is running from its built-in 1000 milliamp-hour LiPo, how much continuous and peak current can the 3.3-volt rail on the Qw/ST connector supply to an external
device (in addition to the Badger’s own load)? The same question is of course also relevant for the Tufty2350, but I assume both devices share the same basic setup (the regulator in this case).
@Hel: is there a reason why there is still no schematic available? A schematic would easily answer questions like this.
The RT9080 regulator on a Badger is rated for 600mA, and the Badger itself wouldn’t normally consume more than 200mA. As the lipo voltage isn’t usually too much above 3.3V, voltage drop over the regulator isn’t high, so I reckon that 600mA can be drawn continuously without the regulator heating too much. That leaves 400mA for external usage.
When running off USB it’s a good idea to keep such high current draw peaks short, to avoid heating the regulator too much.
Same answer for Tufty 2350, though the Tufty display backlight at full brightness would add 80mA to the load.
Agree that schematics would be helpful, I’ll see if that’s something we’re able to make happen.
