Pimoroni Presto

Pimoroni Presto looks delicious… have just ordered one.

Question for the Pimoroni folks… is it possible to power the Presto with a mains supply that isn’t connected to the USB-C connector?

That connector makes the power cable stick out at the side in a way that ruins the lovely design… so thinking I could connect power in the back somewhere?

Blockquote

I came here and signed up for an account to say this exact same thing - having the power cable come out the side makes it almost useless as a permanent display piece in a home. Just move it in a bit and rotate it 90º to the right.

I was wondering if there’s a way to use the LIPO battery port to power the Presto from a mains power supply… 🤔

The battery connector can be used to power Presto with batteries that provide between 3V and 5.5V.

If it works for a 3V-5.5V battery, why not a power supply? (with the right connector soldered on, of course).

Hoping someone from the Pimoroni team can shed some light here!

Agree about the USB cable altering the look. (And, other than that it looks great!)

Also: since Bluetooth and Wifi come on a separate chip, is removing wireless as simple as removing the RM2 module? I.e. can I just pop it off?

Yes, you can feed 5V power into the battery connector if you want - a USB breakout like this would be easily hidden behind the display (Build a USB C to JST Power Adapter | Color Mixing QT Py Cuff Bracelet | Adafruit Learning System)

Or something like this might work? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007374972194.html

Just check the polarity of the JST connector matches the markings on the board before you plug it in!

@wizzy It’s soldered on there, but I guess you could unsolder it if you wanted to?

Or use a Lipo Aimgo and Lipo battery.
No soldering required. ;)

@Hel Perfect, thank you!

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but only the pro model satisfies the OP, right? (And it was out of stock last time I looked).

You are correct, for ease of use and easy hookup the Pro is the one to use. I’m going to edit that post to only show the link to the Pro.
