I need to replace my Raspberry Pi M.2 HAT Compact so I can access the Pi5 GPIO header - bit dumb to terminate the GPIO IMHO :/
So my question is - will the Pimoroni Nvme Base work with the Raspberry Pi branded (small - 2230) 1TB SSD. It looks like a rebranded Biwin Storage Technologies Co SSD, which isn’t listed either way on the Nvme Base web page.
If yes, then I’ll also get Nvme Base Case and an Active Cooler.
SSD currently works fine so I’ll be guided by the “should work” on the web page and proceed. I’ll report back either way …
The problem is you will never know in advance. I assume the Pi Foundation will test their devices on a regular basis with the M.2 HAT, but for other HATs, there will always be a chance that a SSD does not work even if others report it working. Companies sometimes change internal electronics/drivers without changing the type-code or something else.
Trouble is the Pi full sized hat has female GPIO sockets on upper and lower sides (Lord only knows why) so I have to change brand. Just hoping I don’t need to get another SSD and rebuild my Pi 5 development environment.
Maybe these are push-through sockets?! I think the Pi-TV HAT is one of these specimen.
Anyhow: I am using the SSD (256MB variant) also in a different system (Radxa X4) and did not experience any problems. The Radxa is an Intel system though, so again nothing to compare against.
