It’s been a while since I’ve used my Picade. I never updated the Retropie.
Is it safe to do so or would i be better off keeping the old version i installed at the time ?
Is there any danger of losing hat or display drivers and ending up with a blank screen ?

I’m on the latest retropie. I initially had an issue with getting sound to work after installing the picadexhat software. But then I read somewhere that the first thing you should do after upgrading is install the picade software first.
Honestly, best advice I can give is if you have any bespoke setup and you want to test, if you can find a spare micro sd card (nothing to spend on, even a small 32gb would do), you can test a fresh image and see if it you have any issues with it.
