RPI + eInk + Calibre ereader application?

Using a raspberry pi with a hyperpixel is stupid easy. I was wondering if it’s at all possible to use an eInk display with a desktop application like Calibre is possible?

All the drivers for epaper I could find were for drawing shapes or images with a microcontroller or a python script. The refresh rate would make epaper unusable for for switching between applications, but if Calibre booted at start up with eInk, reading pdfs, epubs, and the like would be a better experience than with the hyperpixel and would have a better battery life. Has anyone done this before? Is it even possible? Any tips on how to do myself would be greatly appreciated! :)
