Tufty2350 V3, file copy, wierdness?

I have just recently flashed my Tufty 2350 with the new V3.0.2 uf2 file.
I tried to copy an already edited secrets.py file into the Tufty directory and nothing happens? No prompt that it already exists, and the secrets.py is not replaced by mine? The Tufty is in USB Disk Mode. I can edit the secrets.py file file though? I also can’t copy any files into that directory. I tried to copy my apps __init__.py file in and nothing happens when I clip past? No prompt and no file copy?
If I launch Thonny, hit stop, and try to save my __init__.py as main.py I get an error and a prompt to stop/restart. After I do that, no changes have happened? My file is not saved and main.py is not overridden.
And It won’t let me edit main.py in Thonny. I get error system/main.py hit stop restart etc? I do all that and go back in thonny and main.py hasn’t been chnaged.

You could check that your Tufty “disk” is mounted read-only. Shouldn’t happen, unless there is a problem on the partition/partition-table. Assuming you are still working on a Pi5, run

mount | grep /dev/sda

assuming that your Tufty is somewhere on /dev/sda*.

It’s wierd because I can edit the secrets.py file, but not main.py. And I was able to copy My App files over OK. I’ll fidle around with it latter on today. Time to put supper on right now.

kyrie@pi500:~ $ mount | grep /dev/sda
/dev/sda on /media/kyrie/TUFTY type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1000,gid=1000,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,iocharset=ascii,shortname=mixed,showexec,utf8,flush,errors=remount-ro,uhelper=udisks2)
kyrie@pi500:~ $

I can rename the main.py in the system folder but cannot edit it? And I cannot copy any files into the system folder, nothing happens when I click past?

It looks like I’ll be going back to v2.0.2. @hel @gadgetoid I guess I should also open an issue on github? Right now I’m just wondering if its just me, or a global issue?

I seem to be able to edit main.pyand secrets.py fine with 3.1.1 whilst in USB disk mode, though I note I can’t see the system directory at all whilst in disk mode on my Mac - that only seems to show up when Tufty is running BadgeOS or an app and I interrupt it with Thonny (in which case the directory is read-only).

Perhaps it might be worth trying clearing the flash completely before installing the new image in case old files are causing problems?

I have flash_nuked it. I’m going to plug it into my Windows laptop and see what happens then. right now I’m coding on my Pi 5 desktop setup. My main Windows PC is down and out for now, it’s what i usually do all my coding on. I’m running v3.0.2.
I’ll flash_nuke it again, and start over with v3.1.1 and get back to you. Thanks for the replay.

Flash_nuked it and flashed with v3.1.1 and all is good now. No more file copy weirdness. =)
