Video Player

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the Raspberry pi and Noobs. I from a friend that had his nephew program his to play video. I have read some and it looks like there is a video player in LibreElec. I didn’t know this when I first installed NOOBS. Now I am trying to find a way to install it afterwards. Does anyone know if it actually is part of NOOBS and how can I install it?

I don’t know anything about that sadly, but I can share some amateur knowledge with you.

VLC should play videos and it play music.

I’ll add in a hyperlink to another page to show you how to get it installed.

sudo apt-get install vlc

^This is the exact phrase you type into command line^

Which raspberry pi are you working with? and is it visual based or command line based? I’ll help as best I can with the limited knowledge I have

LibreElec is a parallel project to Kodi, and is “just enough OS for Kodi”.

Basically you burn it to your uSD card and it’s a Kodi media player out of the box.

You can download the images from https://libreelec.tv/downloads/ , where you can also find a nice simple installer which will take care of even the uSD card creation for you.

you can also install Kodi over the top of Raspbian if you want, it will work, albeit if you want an optimised environment and you have no plans to do anything else with the Pi then installing a specialist distro is probably a good idea.

… and yes, you can do that straight from NOOBS by booting into it when you fire up the Pi, and making sure it has internet access.
