Zero 2 W + Hyperpixel 4 issue(s)

Hi all,
am having some headaches with an otherwise working Hyperpixel 4 Square Touch display when trying to combine it with a RPi Zero 2 W (as a preface I should say it works perfectly with an earlier Pi Zero W V1.1, for example).

have tried following the 177 guidance when setting up a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W with a Hyperpixel 4 Square Touch. I’ve added the necessary line dtoverlay=vc4-kms-dpi-hyperpixel4sq to the top of the /boot/firmware/config.txt. Upon restarting the device all that is rendered is a bunch of lines across the entirety of the screen with no responsiveness/change whatsoever (as if a line of pixels were stretched across the screen).

This is using the Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit) Bookworm with Desktop, 2024-07-04 (and tested also with the lite, desktop-less version). The weird thing is that if dtoverlay is set to vc4-kms-dpi-hyperpixel4 (the rectangular config), the display works halfway displaying a glitchy, doubled image of the rPi desktop that seems to indicate that it would work with a rectangular display.

My question therefore is, has anyone managed to get an a rPi Xero 2 W with a Hyperpixel 4 Square display working on an updated Raspberry Pi OS image?

I’d give Legacy OS a try. Unless you absolutely need Bookworm. I do believe changes were made to the video side of things for the Pi 5.

Thank you for the heads up, legacy install and then installing the square-pi4 branch from the Hyperpixel GitHub repository seems to be the way to go.
