I’ve got a new Inky 7.3” Spectra version and put it beside the older ones.
The 7.3” is 2024 edition and the 5.7” is 2022.
The new implementation has definitely better colors and the refresh time is faster.

Oooh, good to know! I was wondering if they were really that much better than the older inkies. They really do look much better.
Still, I think I need to do something more useful with my old one before getting a new one…
If you want to compare colors, the first thing you have to do is to make sure that you don’t use the magic sauce from the official inky drivers. Once you do the dithering yourself e.g. with ImageMagick and trick the driver to leave the colors alone, the old Inky colors are not as muted as in your images.
But still: the new Spectra6 is definitely an improvement. And there are some good reasons for the magic sauce as well.
