Enviro+ do I need a filter for PMS5003 Particulate Matter Sensor

I’m testing out the PMS5003 Particulate Matter Sensor indoors at the moment but will eventually move the whole rig outdoors.

I plan to design a “hat” for it and rig up a longish tube to connect it to the outside. Do I need a filter for it, to keep out insects?

I’d imagine that’s a good idea, although we’ve got an Enviro+ rollout happening in Sheffield that I don’t believe includes any kind of filter on the sensors.

I’d go for a medium fine metal mesh so that it’s permeable to nm-scale particulates but not bugs. Might need regular cleaning though and I don’t know how it might affect readings.
