ESP32 s2 Feather reverse TFT

Hi, I have recently bought an ESP s2 Feather reverse TFT. When I plug it in to my laptop, it shows the “Adafruit Feather ESP32-S2 TFT demo …” . It shows up as COM3 on Device Manager. At this point I switched it into the bootloader mode using the double reset button push. It shows the Feather TFT bootloader display, and now shows up as FTHRS2BOOT (D:). If I now drag and drop the downloaded CircuitPython file, the drive does not show CircuitPython, but remains as the FTHRSBOOT (D:) drive. I must be doing something wrong? Can anyone help?

If i download the factory reset code, it goes back the the "Adafruit Feather … " display.

Thanks,

Joe

First thing to check is the bootloader. If you go to the download page of the firmware ESP32-S2 Reverse TFT Feather Download and scroll all the way down you will find instructions at the end (right side of the page).

Next thing to try is to unplug the device after flashing the firmware. The third thing to try is to use an older CP version, e.g. 9.2.7 instead of 10.3.1. Sometimes newer versions introduce bugs, and even if they are declared stable it does not mean that they are bug-free.

Never use a version that is not declared as stable, unless you know what you are doing and why you need the newest version.

Thanks. The bootloader was version 0.10.2 which I think was not suitable for the 10.3 version of circuitpython.

I used Openinstaller to download an updated bootloader followed by circuitpython. I now have a working device where I can see the code.py file in Circuitpy (D:).

The device is now running circuitpython, albeit I’ve not got the code.py code working yet. In any case, I’m on the way so thanks for your prompt help.

I loaded the relevant libraries to the device /lib and now it’s running code generated by Claude to display live illuminance data on the screen. Yee haa! Thanks again.
