Plasma 2350W with Flexible RGB+W LED Strip (COM3204) not lighting LEDs

So I brought a Plasma 2350 W as well as 2m of the 60p/m Flexible RGB+W LED Strip.

I can’t get the LED strip to work at all.

I have the plasma_2350_w-v1.0.0-micropython-with-filesystem.uf2 firmware from the releases page - Releases · pimoroni/plasma · GitHub

All the examples run / work, but nothing actually happens with the LED strip. The Plasma on board LED does work, the button input is recognised, but nothing on the LED strip.

I have the 3 pins from the LED strip going to the correct places on the board (sorry the other socket connected to the plasma has contradictory colors)

white (ground) > negative terminal
green (data) > DAT terminal
red (5v) > 5v terminal

The additional red + black wire on the LED strip, I presume are not needed?

Is the strip DOA? Any ideas?

so it turns out the connector soldered + glued to the leds (out of the box) was on the wrong end. it needed the arrows on the led strip to point AWAY from the microcontroller (thanks @ahnlak for pointing this out on discord)

so with that in mind, it now works, but the leds aren’t powered until the end of the strip, and they’re not very bright, do I need an additional power supply for these?
