I have an idea about building a project with a pico W and a display pack 2.0 and want to power it as a standalone project. What do I needed to power it up? A battery pack? And an additional interface?
Looking at the pinout, it looks like Display Pack only needs 3.3V. That means you can go with an Amigo or Amigo Pro. I have several Amigo Pro’s here. Or just regular batteries.
3 x AA Battery Holder with Switch and JST-PH Connector (pimoroni.com)
LiPo Amigo (LiPo/LiIon Battery Charger) – LiPo Amigo (pimoroni.com)
LiPo Amigo (LiPo/LiIon Battery Charger) – LiPo Amigo Pro (pimoroni.com)
Be aware that this combination will really draw a lot of current. So be prepared to change batteries often.
Can I connect the regular batteries directly to the pico? Or do I need the LiPo Amigo?
You don’t want to use the Lipo Amigo with regular batteries.
The Raspberry Pi Pico can be powered via the micro-USB port on the board or GPIO 39 (VSYS) . It can safely operate in the ranges between 1.8V and 5.5V .
ok, thanks tha’st what I needed to know.
I’ll keep that in mind, thanks.
