Skywriter hat stopped working (1.3.14;p:Hills)

I get these messages in the log:
Got firmware info
1.3.14;p:Hills

It worked for a few days and suddenly stopped!
2nd skywriter works with same PI and same software.

what now?

I am building a project with 20 of these - so failure is no option!
