Tufty 2040 arrived DOA – troubleshooting attempts

Hi all,

I just received my first Tufty 2040 and unfortunately it seems to be dead on arrival. Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

Symptoms:

  • When plugged into USB-C, no backlight, no LED, and the PC does not recognize any device (no USB sound, no RPI-RP2 drive).

  • Tried multiple USB ports and cables (all confirmed to work with other devices).

  • Held BOOT while plugging in to enter bootloader mode — still nothing.

  • Tested with a the battery back, still no power to the board.

What I tried:

  • Different USB-C cables (data + power).

  • Different PCs and USB ports.

  • Holding the BOOT button for bootloader mode.

  • Using the battery pack to power the board directly.

At this point, the board shows no signs of life and I suspect it’s a hardware fault.

Has anyone else experienced a Tufty arriving completely dead? Any additional troubleshooting steps I could try before contacting Pimoroni support?

Thanks in advance!

The Tufty has a pwr button. You need to press it to turn it on. See Getting Started with Tufty 2040

I read the guide, I’ve tried, since the screen doesnt power on, could you let me know if the led should light up once the power is connected?

If you plugged in power trying various methods, cables, and whatnot, than pressing the power button on the back and nothing…. yeah it doesn’t look promising. Usually, as I have two Tuffy’s, they should turn on and display a menu of built-in apps to run.

I’d contact support – they are really good about helping people out.

appreciate it, seems like it’s DOA

I wasn’t sure, since in your “What I tried” list, there was nothing about pressing the power-button.
