well I got the Unicorn Hat working, but now my daughter wants sound, , , I have removed the Hat . . but still no sound. . . we cannot route sound through the hdmi because using a 10" touch screen that has no speakers and a strange sized sound output, ( I think ) any advice gratefully received

Try to run:
curl -sS https://get.pimoroni.com/audio | bash
and choose option 1 (analogue). If that does not work, please post your /boot/config.txt for review.
