Using Fanshim software on KodI libreElec

In SSH can you check the kodi log file, if you have the option to record readings the log will show each time it cycles and it will always record when the script starts and ends and when it trys to switch the fan on and off.

Sorry Jane. Looked in libre elec and Kodi. Can’t find zip installs to turn on but do have allow “unknown sources” turned on if that is what you mean and the zip was left in tact to be opened in libreelec. I’ll reload onto fresh memory stick and try again. Thanks for all your help sorry for the trouble.

thanks jane!!! addon installed fan switched off. must have messed up the zip before. you’re a hero now to play around with it with temp settings. thanks again

I got this… and fan stays at full speed, no leds active.

I’ll try a clean install just libreelec and your addon

That is fantastic! Worked like a charm with your default temps.and once I found it adjusted temps easily. Really nice work, looks great and so easy to use, love the led toggle too (I found them annoying when on raspbian let alone when watching a film at night) thanks so much. Is it ok to pass the zip on, with appropriate credit to you of course? Thanks again for all your hard work.

FINALLY! Since the addon was “working”, I checked the Fan connections and when I twisted it a little bit it stopped spinning, the addon was/is working perfectly, I just had a connection problem between the GPIO and the Fan shim… probably the other scripts were working too =( happy to have the system working now,but sad to lost 2 days and a have a wiped OS

Glad you have it working. Pretty cool huh? Saw you liked the pic of pimoronis Phil that’s a different Phil to Phil Randall that wrote the base code that Jane worked from. I’m happy I’m Jane’s no.1 fan I’ve been looking for 2 weeks for a solution. Turned an ok htpc into a serious contender to the shield.

I am so impressed I’m not watching movies now, I’m on system info watching your work kick in and out.

This is great. Exceeds hopes and expectations. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Ambient temp at 25, add-on set at 55 and 70. fan not called for when idle or when playing content without intentional stress, I have to stress CPU to make the fan necessary. I hope Pimoroni offer lots of credit by way of vouchers for the increased sales this will doubtlessly bring in. Are you making this public? Do you want it public? Any objections to your add-on being spread or maybe added to a repo? Lots of Rpi and LE users will love your work. This solved a big problem for me and I’m sure others will appreciate your efforts too. Bravo, and again Thank you

You could post it here, in Projects, or maybe Pull requests? Maybe even in the issues section.

I’ve gotten an occasional freebe for helping out here etc.

Shit! I’m new user of the month? It’s only the 6th and all I did was download Jane’s add-on badly. With regard to the suggestion from Alphanumerical on the upload/hosting? to the pimoroni site.not my business but imo This should be subject to negotiation by Jane and pimoroni? Raspberrypi.org, libreelec.tv subreddits like RPi and addons4kodi all have more people searching for Jane’s solution to this pimoroni product. But like I said it should be between Jane and pimoroni perhaps?

I have to agree with raspberry tart. Jane’s add-on has probably made the fanshim the most important ,usable, effective and potentially widely used cooling system for the great but notoriously overheating Pi4 . Open source is what it is, but as Richard stallman said " free as in speech not as in beer" time will tell if they’ll be fair or fork it anyway.

Let me just clarify what I meant when I said “post it”. I should have been more clear, post what you have done for them, as in, by the way I have this add in for Librelec, etc. Something like that, not the actual add in itself. Just a, bye the way are you interested in this, post. Just put a link to this thread on that git hub page.

No worries, but speaking as a libreelec user Jane’s work has made world of difference in unlocking the potential of the Raspberry pi 4 as a top value for money media centre. That must be worth more than a badge, no?

This may rub some of you the wrong way but here goes. And its not aimed at any one person in particular.
Did you have to pay for any of the info you searched for to get where you are now?
Did you invest anything into it other than the time to work it all out? Not counting the cost of the hardware.
Yes that is worth something, the thanks of the Raspberry Pi **community ** for your contribution and efforts. Is that enough, thats for you to decide.
Raspbian, LibreElec, etc are free. Somebody took a lot of time to develop them. And even more time to continue support for them.
From the sounds of it you have already made many people happy with what you have done. For some, that is thanks enough.

As I mentioned earlier, I have been gifted with the occasional freebe from Pimoroni for helping out here. I never asked for anything or expected anything in return for helping out. It just happened and was a big surprise to me. It was very well appreciated as I have all kinds of free time but not a whole lot of disposable income.

A lot of it has to do with how you interact with a company or retailer etc. Treat them nice and they treat you nice. Just something to think about.

Please no, not the old for the benefit of the community argument. pimoroni are a business. They are not working for the benefit of the “community” If they were they would have invested their time developing a solution to the libreelec issues with their product. Businesses have always profited from open source developers work but don’t claim it is for the good of mankind. I hope Jane gets rewarded by pimoroni in some way because I am certain pimoroni will reap great rewards from Jane’s hard work and skills. The fanshim was a nice idea before, now, I would say, it’s a must have for the Rpi4 .it is the best cooling system available on Raspbian and Libreelec

I am happy for the add on to be shared anywhere.

I’ll probably put in in a git hub account when I have time.

This has now been added to

If you want to share please use this link rather than the Dropbox one which may change.

I for one thank you for all your hard work. It is very satisfying when what ever your trying to do, finally does it. =)
Most of what I do Pi wise is in Python. Most of my files will only work with the specific combination of bits I’ve wired together. I’ve shared bits of my code and sometimes the whole file. Sometimes its cool to see what changes etc somebody else makes.
Anyway, now you can just sit back and chill out to some nice music, while your Pi also chills out, lol.

I saw on Jane’s GitHub that you are looking for pwm . There’s someone on addons4kodi subreddit. “ikid” is working on that with Jane’s add-on. Though No pull request as yet. May be of help?

Thanks! I saw that post today =)
