What kind of speaker with Adafruit I2S 3W Class D Amplifier Breakout - MAX98357A?

i was wondering if 3" Speaker 4Ω (5W) was ok

i believe ampli should be more powerfull, over 30% of the speaker’s power, but i am not sure

if I understand the question correctly, what you are referring to is certainly considered sound (pun intended) advice for professional systems. I’m not so sure it makes a huge difference in this instance, especially as the MAX98357A can cope with low impedance speakers in the first place.

That said I’m not quite the expert, but if you have such speakers at hand then I certainly wouldn’t hesitate trying them out on this breakout - AFAIK no damage can result and I’d be surprised if you did find the combo unsuitable.

… if you don’t have any speakers sourced already and are worried in any fashion something you could purchase be a poor fit for the amp, then I would say try to get your hands on the speakers Adafruit themselves sell and recommend: https://www.adafruit.com/product/1314
