Hi!
I’m building an arcade machine with my kids. The idea is to use a raspberry pi 4 and have a two player setup with 2 joystick, preferably 8 buttons each. Also a power on/off, and probably 3-4 other button (if needed for in game menus). Speakers. Retropi.
What parts should I order?
Picade X Hut Usb-C is for single player use. Can I stack two of those or do I combine this card with the picade max usb controller?
Or do I only use the picade max usb controller only, combining it with the picade max usb audio? How do I turn the thing off then. Need some kind of physical button.
I probably do need:
2 picade wiring loom v2
2 arcade parts kit (joysticks and buttons)
Final question. Can I use the metal illuminated button as an on/off switch that connects to the picade x hut usb-c? That’s why I thought I needed this card in the first place. The max usb controller does not have an on/off and no Soundcard. Most grateful for any help or a list of the parts I need.
The Picade X Hat has the headers for one player. Adding “1” Player X USB would get you the connections for the second player. I haven’t done it but others here have . It was how it was done prior to the Picade Max.
The Picade Max uses the Max USB (2 person) Controller board and USB Audio board.
It just depends on whether you go X or Max. Hopefully one or more Picade owners will chime in.
Sounds like the Picade Max USB controller would be a good fit here - it emulates a USB device so needs no additional drivers and has plenty of inputs for two players.
For the power, you could just connect a button direct to a GPIO pin and set it up to do a safe shutdown?
It would be even easier on a Pi 5 as there are dedicated pads for hooking up an external power button:
Thank you everyone for the support and quick answers. I have now placed an order. Ended up with the picade max usb controller, the usb audio board and a shut down button. Excited to start the build!
