"Camera Cable Adapter for Raspberry Pi 4 (CAM007)" - the title is misleading, if it's not only for the Pi4

The only Pi camera I own is for the Pi Zero and I only bought the Pi Zero cable. I now want to use the camera with a Pi 3A+ or Pi 3B, ideally, but the only adapter cable I see is this one:

Camera Cable Adapter for Raspberry Pi 4 (CAM007)

I looked at that a few times, thinking, “Is it really just for the Pi4, as the title implies?” If that was the case, it would mean there are at least three different connection standards for a Raspberry Pi camera.

I don’t see the usual notes about compatibility but either way, if it works with Pi3 models, the title is off putting since it implies it’s Pi4 specific. It took me a while to spot the part that says “and earlier full-size models” - I actually didn’t see that until after reading all the reviews, then starting this question.

So, IMO, at the very least the title needs correcting. “Camera Cable Adapter for Raspberry Pi 4” doesn’t suggest to me that it would also work with older models. It suggests that it’s Pi4 specific and won’t work with anything else.

I do believe there are at least 3 different standards. The one on the Pi Zero, the larger one on Pi 4’s and earlier, and the one on the Pi 5.

I agree the title is a bit misleading but IMHO, the description clears that up.

This handy little adapter lets you use our Raspberry Pi Zero cameras with the large, 15-pin camera connector on Raspberry Pi 4 (and earlier full-size models).

The intent is likely to differentiate it from the Pi 5 cable? It uses custom cables for the Camera and Pi Touch Screen Display.

Anyway, that adapter should be fine for connecting a Pi Zero Camera to a Pi 3. Electrically its the same pinout as a Pi 4 Camera connector. I’ve used the official Pi Camera and Cable on Pi 3A’s, 3B’s, and 4’s.

Thanks. I suspect some people will have got no further than the title and concluded it wasn’t the part they needed.
