DRV8830 Breakout Garden for large motor?

Hi there,

I’m a bit of a beginner to motor control and looking to use some parts I already have around to control a little robot kit. The parts in question are a Pi Zero W + Breakout Garden pHAT, and two DRV8830 I2C Breakout Garden boards. My concern is that I don’t really understand how they can power a larger motor: the two motors on the robot chassis are 12V DC motors. Is the breakout garden able to draw that much power? Or do I need to use the DRV8830 in conjunction with some external circuitry to step up the voltage to the motors?

Thanks in advance!

The short answer is no - from the product page :

3-6V compatible

So you either want different drivers, or different motors :)

You’ll also have to take into consideration the power draw of those motors (the stall current will give you a handy peak to handle)
