I’m one of the original Picade Kickstarter backers, and I was thinking to replace the Picade PCB in my unit with one of the new PCB’s that receives periodical firmware updates.
Then the Picade HAT goes and gets released :)
Does the Picade HAT replace all the functionality of the standard Picade PCB?
sort of. The on-board DAC drives a single speaker, but otherwise it’s pretty much feature-to-feature comparable to the current PCB version. Actually it adds soft power down via a switch input.
I guess you could always keep using the PCB Picade to drive your speakers, or even both in tandem to augment the input array.
As a straight swap though, I’m not sure what you feel is lacking in your current setup, so it’s hard to say if this makes sense to invest in the HAT version (to gain soft power shutdown at the expense of mono sound).
