Pico Display Pack 2.0 on Expander Board

Hello everyone,
I have tested the Pico Display Pack 2.0 and would now like to supply it with data in real time. But when we put the display on an expander to connect more modules, the display does not work anymore.
When I start the code, the backlight comes on and I can also see via an output that the buttons work and that pressing them is registered.
Unfortunately we do not get a picture.
We have tried various expanders up to the Pico Omnibus or Pico Decker.
The same result can be achieved with just wiring.

Is this known and normal or should the display also run via an expander?

We have also tried the Pico Display Pack v1, there are no problems on the expansion board.

Maybe someone knows a tip on how it could work.

Thanks and best regards
Peter

I have a Display Pack 2 running on an Omnibus. I’ve also had it running on a Pico Decker. Do you have anything else plugged into the expander, other than the display and Pico?
Also, make sure its plugged in the right way around, and not reversed 180 degrees.

Hello and thank you,
I have fitted a Pico (not W) with a new Piromoni uf2 and plugged the display directly onto the Pico, the demo works. Then directly to some expander, it doesn’t work anymore. Nothing else is connected either. Display, new Piromoni uf2, demo code and Pico.

Thank you very much.

Just to clarify, what expander board are you using?

EDIT: Posting a picture of your physical setup might help?

Hi, thank you,
I use a Pico omnibus Piromoni and the Decker. The 3rd one I can’t remember where it came from. But the Piromoni products should work I think.
Thanks a lot

That’s a weird one? Yes, it should work with the Pimoroni expanders.
And you know the display works. Might be time to contact Pimoroni support directly?

Okay, thank you very much.
I think the display could be defective.
But knowing that it basically works makes me feel better.
I’ll order a new one and give it a try.
Thank you, best wishes and have a nice day!

In you picture, what are those two small square procumbence’s above and too each side of the Pico’s USB Jack?

oh, i think this is a contact side to another board of the PCB from production.

Ah, Ok. Yeah the boards are manufactured as multiples (in a grid pattern) that you snap (break apart). Weird that one would get out the door with those bits left in place though? If it was me I’d remove them / snap them off. And do one last test.

Are they on the Pico?

Something else I have noticed in the Picture is?

It looks to me like the headers on the Pico W are soldered to the wrong solder pads. They are soldered to the castellated pads on the outside edge. The one on the right in the photo doesn’t look right? They should be soldered to the inside rows of pads. That’s one red flag? Unless it’s a Pico W with header?

Zooming in on the photo distorts things a bit, and makes it hard to see the details. ;)

Today 2 new displays arrived and now everything is working as it should. I’m pleased because I can now get started and bring everything together. Some of the picos here are imported from Asia, so anything can happen. I’m not even sure if the controller itself is original :)
But anyway, here we go, many thanks and best wishes!
Peter
