Pimoroni Presto- half naked?

I absolutely love how the pimoroni presto looks.

But it’s always slightly confused me when screens (and especially touchscreens) don’t come in a case. With a raspberry pi or a plasma2040, you’re probably going to put it inside a box once it’s up and working (and the size and shape of the box is not too important because it’s not going to be as visible). But if you’ve got a touchscreen, it’s likely that people will be touching it at some point, so it’s going to need a case… (and, if the front of your device is made of beautiful brushed aluminium, it’s going to be hard for me to make a case for the back that looks as good).

And I’ve spend a lot of time making cases for screens already!

I especially think that presto is more of a polished device than a normal cheap touchscreen (or something crazy like the Pico GFX), so it really would make sense to give it a proper finish on the back. Right now it seems to be in the no-man’s-land between a maker’s project, and a “real” product. Also, if the USBC was soldered so that it pointed out of the bottom of the PCB, that would be amazing.

An enclosed cover for the back is something we’ve discussed and that we’d like to implement in future versions :)

We actually tried pointing the USB-C cable downwards on prototypes, but we found that plugging and unplugging the cable at that angle put a lot of upwards leverage on the USB-C port. If the stand design changes we might be able to revisit that?

I think it makes sense for this product, even if other maker touchscreens don’t necessarily need it. I also think it would be great if the enclosed cover didn’t make it impossible to use the screen “upside down” like this:

I hadn’t thought of that. But the stand design is fantastic. maybe there’s another way of doing it.
