Push-fit speaker terminals: Pirate Audio 3W - Help

Hi
Just got one of these and finding the Push fit speaker terminals an issue.
I could be being extremely stupid but I cant get these to work.
Using a small cross screwdriver to push down on the little dimple on the clip and at same time push the wire in. Result = no grip on wire at all. When pushing down, there really feel like no movement ! Tried speakers with tinned wires and also plain old breadboard wire.
Its hard to look inside these, but to me they look like the internals are missing or am i missing something stupid!

In theory, you only need to push down to “remove” the wires. Tined wires should just push in with some resistance. And once in not fall out again. It’s a friction fit. You can push them down to make inserting the wire easier. Once released, the wire should stay in place.

I hear you - use the tiniest screwdriver you can find. They are slightly challenging to get in the first time but they hold nicely.

Many thanks for the replies.

I could not get the speaker tinned wires in (maybe if i stripped back further and re-tinned), but managed to get solid wire in, but having to use need nose pliers to push! Soldered the speakers to these . So its working, but bit more of a bodge than usual for me !

Something else to watch out for is. If you don’t strip off enough insulation, bare wire part really short, when you push them in the insulated part makes the contact. You have a good physical connection, but no electrical connection. ;) It can have you scratching your head wondering why you have no sound.
