Resurrecting an older Picade

I’ve inherited a Picade that came partly disassembled and without a back panel. From the look of the files on the SD card it was setup in ~2020 and last tinkered with in 2023. Other than that (and some dust) it seems to be mostly functional.

It’s a Pi 4 B Rev 1.2 running Raspbian Buster and it boots to RetroPie / EmulationStation with the joystick and buttons working. It seems to have a Picade X USB-C HAT but the soft power switch is damaged. It also has the 6-button plasma kit for the control panel and that seems to be cycling through a rainbow sequence. Oh, and the top has a hole in it, I’m not sure if that was for anything functional?

Any advice on things I should be doing to update this?

  • Assuming I stay with the current Pi 4 setup, how straightforward is it to update to latest Pi OS w/ Retropie etc and still have all the nifty Pimoroni hardware work smoothly?
  • I suspect (?) the existing hardware might not be Pi 5 ready, would that be a correct assumption?

Thanks for helping me to bring this into more modern times!

I’m running Raspberry Pi OS Trixie now, with Retropie on top, and have the plasma buttons working.

Does anyone have a template / outline for the back panel of the cabinet, so that I could get one laser cut? Currently it is missing, which is great for air flow, but less good for dust…
