SP/CE compatibility with Qw/St

Is SP/CE (8-pin JST-SH) compatible with Qw/St (4-pin JST-SH)? Specifically, could I plug a Clipper into the Badger 2040W? Or are they just completely different despite both being JST-SH?

Thanks in advance!

One is an 8 pin plug, the other a 4 pin plug. You cannot plug an 8 pin plug into a 4 pin socket.

In addition, the LDO of the Badger2040W only provides 250mA: for the Pico itself, the screen and any peripherals. So no chance to power something like the Clipper.

How about plugging a Qw/St connector into an 8-pin socket? (I know that I couldn’t plug a 4-pin into the Clipper, but like if I were to plug a Trackball Breakout into a device with a SP/CE port?)

Physically you could plug a 4-pin Qw/ST into 8-pin SP/CE but it is not pin compatible, so none of the 4 available positions would electrically work. If you were to make up your own adapter cable though, then SP/CE does have the I2C pins necessary for a Qw/ST device on our Pico products so far. For example, Pico Plus 2:

If I made my own adapter cable I would not be able to connect an SP/CE breakout to a Qw/St port though, correct?

That is correct. You could make a Qw/ST (breakout) to SP/CE (host) adapter cable, but not a SP/CE (breakout) to Qw/ST (host) adapter cable.
