I have a couple of the old PHATBEAT boards (with the attendant ‘pop’ on power on and between tracks, as I use straight ALSA for sound). I also have a couple of Pirate Audio boards, the DAC/3W/LCD variety - without added pop!
These are used in conjunction with Pi0W boards and some 4Ohm 5W speakers as snapclient machines. I want to add more clients, and am wondering what the intended replacement for the PHATBEAT is/was.
So I am looking for a stereo output (so the Pi Codec Zero is out) direct to speakers, like I have now, and ideally capable of being powered by the Pi itself, rather than needing an extra PSU (so the Pi DigiAmp+ is also out). While I have no issues (other than hating the push connectors for the speakers!!) with the Pirate Audio board, it seems a waste of an LCD display, as they will be in cases and not able to be seen. Do you stock/make anything else that might be more suitable?
It seems that most of the Pi audio boards are either mono only, or require an external amp.
