Would it be possible to create a custom compute module carrier board and use some ic to convert dsi0 to parallell rgb888 and output to a 40pin header only used by the hyperpixel hat? And save the gpio pins for a “regular” 40pin header to be used with other hats?
Anyone have any thoughts, experience with something similar or suggestions for a suitable ic? I have searched for MIPI DSI BRIDGE and found for example TIs SN65DSI83.
Although this might be possible, it seems to be a very over-engineered solution. The Hyperpixels are very nice displays, but there are other solutions available that give you capacitive touch without blocking all pins. You might not have these very high frame-rates though. And not the pixel-resolution, but I actually doubt that you need that resolution on small displays like this.
I like the form factor and resolution of the hyperpixel screens. And I think the main issue people have with them is to not be able to use them with hats. The best option would be if pimoroni released a new version that would use the same connector as the official rpi screen
