I am looking to upgrade my original Picade in the near future with a new screen and buttons.
However, before I get all the new parts I have a couple of questions:
- Can I use the new Picade xHat with a raspberry pi 3B?
- How do I get the old buttons to work with the new Picade xHat? The xHat has two holes for each button, but the buttons only have one wire each.
Is there anything else I need to get it to work?
Thanks
Richard
A Pi 3B should be fine with the Picade X hat. It has the exact same GPIO layout as the 4B has. You will need the 4B USB C power supply though.
Your older buttons have a common ground wire that goes from button to button linking them all together. The new buttons each have a ground and the other dedicated wire.
I think you’ll find that one of the double rows on the button header is all grounds and the other side goes to the GPIO pins. Plug the single wires into the side with the button numbers, and your one ground wire into any one of the other ones on the other side of the button header, and they should work. That’s how it looks to me anyway. I don’t own a Picade, old or new, just so you know.
