I have an original Galactic Unicorn with a Pico W and am wondering about it’s compatibility with the Pico 2 W. I know new Galactic Unicorn’s have the Pico 2 W but can I just desolder the Pico W from my original Galactic Unicorn and solder on the Pico 2 W I recently purchased?
Are you experienced with using Surface Mount Technology? Namely SMT soldering and repair etc. It’s no easy feat to unsolder the Pico without damaging the Galactic Unicorn?
That being said, I guess I’d compare the two schematics? The Pico and Pico 2 have the same pinout, so I’m thinking it’s doable?
To my knowledge the schematics are unchanged between the two versions. It’s “just” a Pico 2 swap and a silk update to reflect the new chip.
Thanks for your reply. This would be my first attempt at SMT. I have a hot air station and feel reasonably comfortable at attempting it. Having to buy a new one and paying to have it shipped to Canada makes me want to try. I will practice the process on some test boards and chips I have. I really need the additional memory of the new Pico 2 W on my Galactic Unicorn in order to complete my current project.
Again thanks for your help.
Thanks for your reply. I wasn’t aware that the schematics were available for the Galactic Unicorn (or are you referring to the Pico’s?). I’ll do some more research.
Thanks for your help.
Good to know. Thanks for your help.
