I built a picade 10” screen a couple of years ago, and it worked fine. Then moved house etc, and it got forgotten about ! .. anyway thought i would put a new install on a bigger sd card. well i had no choice there as the original sd card went missing.
I reinstalled everything to a new card following the instructions on the pimoroni site. Mine is a pi3b not a 5 though. Should still work though ?
Anyway after the autostarting emulation station step .. i just get the emulation station logo. controls dont respond though i can still ssh into it, but cant reboot the picade from here . all i can do is pull the plug. Totally stuck.
Emulation station does look like its doing something initially. goes through systems and says preloading ui .. which it does 3 times then freezes, with a mesage saying done
Anyone able to help. please dont say reinstall retropie as it took over 5 hours to install !
The websits said it would take around 35 minutes LOL
Just to add -
i can interrupt the loading sequence with the picade’s buttons, so i know that is working. Also connecting a keyboard to the usb port of the pi makes the screen flash. i dont have another keyboard to hand to try, so all my install has been done with ssh so far. Also no led on the hat.
What PSU are you using? It sounds a little like the system might be struggling for power.
I only tested with a Pi 5 and a Pi 4 but as far as I know installing Retropie on top of Pi OS should work on older Pis. As an alternative, you could give the prebuilt Retropie image that’s available in Raspberry Pi Imager a try - flashing that should at least be quicker?
hi, thanks for replying. i have two psu’s both came with pi bundles (both output 3A) .. so i dunno if its a keyboard problem (its a logitech G213) .. i just moved house so i cant lay my hands on a spare keyboard to try.
In any case i managed to load a retropie image in. I need to install the hat software but that image hasnt got SSH setup so im back to square one with trying to get my keyboard working with it.
Looks like i need to go shopping for a second keyboard and or a USB hub so i can get any further,
Emulation Station is at least loading in without crashing now though !
hi ok i fixed it .. managed to find a usb hub to power the screen separately, thus allowing the keyboard to be attached. Setup the wifi, and run the picadehat curl script. Controls work now !
Just need to put some games on !
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction with using a retropie image instead.
