I was very disappointed to learn here that the best I can hope for is a cheesy multi-layer acrylic case for what would arguably be a better RPi than the 5 Pi4s I have that are tucked into nice stylish FLIRC aluminium cases (one of them a snazzy Kodi box) and a Pi3 in its Flirc case running Octopi.
The advantages of a base over a hat in this instance in terms of airflow are clear, so I’m sure there would be good takeup for a more professional-looking case if it were available. It might even provide more of an incentive for users to buy the base in preference to the hat!

Sorry that it’s taking a while - we’ve been using a new to us manufacturing process for these which has involved a lot of iterations and back and forth with the factory. It’s progressing, though (we’re sending them some fresh design files this week) and I’ve been making sure to bring it up in our weekly dev meeting so it gets kept on our radar.
It’s been nearly a year since my original post. I am beyond gobsmacked at the decision making process that went into this. To produce an nvme base for arguably the best Raspberry Pi with the intention of sticking it into a splingy acrylic case or 3d printed if you are lucky enough to have one smacks of rank amateurism. You have seriously dented your reputation with me, at least.
There is still no mention on the lack of a case or alternative on the shop page which to me smacks of poor ethics.
Cases are very close to release, I’m just finishing off the assembly guide currently. Was aiming to get it out before Easter, but didn’t quite manage it, alas.
