Picade Console - Cannot config

Hello,

I am following the guide here : Assembling your Picade Console. I have installed RetroPie for my RP4B using the Raspberry Pi Imager.

When I get to the point of booting up and configuring, it boots, then goes into a config for controls (RetroPie). I do not have the chance to press F4 to get to a terminal, so I cannot connect to WiFi, download the Picade software, etc.

Is there a step that I am missing or an updated guide?

I think that guide assumes you’ve got a USB keyboard plugged in to do the setup steps, but you might want to check out this more recent one:

It covers how to set things up connecting to the Pi ‘headlessly’ using SSH also.

The installation process should be exactly the same on Picade Console - you can just ignore anything to do with the display :)

Thank you. Between this new guide and teh SSH instructions on the RetroPie website itself, I got through!

Now, it’s not detecting 3 of the 4 directions on my joystick itself when configuring inputs on Emulation Station. I am wondering if I have a defective part :(. Any ideas for how to properly test/diagnose this?

Good stuff!

That sounds like the joystick might be plugged in the wrong way round - try rotating the connector 180 at the Picade X HAT end :)
