Raspberry Pi 4 – solid red & green LEDs, no boot or HDMI output

Hi everyone,

I’ve been given a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (from around 2018) for educational use, but I can’t get it to boot.
As soon as I plug in power, both the red and green LEDs turn on solid and never blink. There’s no HDMI signal or SD card activity.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Multiple SD cards (Samsung 128 GB + SanDisk 16 GB)

  • Fresh images written with Raspberry Pi Imager (32-bit and 64-bit OS)

  • Official bootloader recovery image

  • Different known-good USB-C power supplies

Same result every time — solid red and green, no flashing.
Does that LED pattern usually mean the board is dead, or is there anything else I can try to recover it?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Eliott

Make sure your using HDMI1, the one next to the USB C Power Jack.
What happens if you boot with no SD Card, it should boot to a diagnostics screen?
If it’s in a case, I’d remove the case. Also make sure nothing is plugged into the GPIO header.
