Right…
Got everything ‘hardware’ working… now emulation and roms…
With this being my first time, im not sure wether things are normal or not… but … from what i can see on the ‘net, u can scroll left and right to choose different systems, do these systems appear straight away or after you have put some roms in their folder.!? … and …
I read online on how to put roms onto the emulation station… ( by sticking a thumb stick into the pi, then puting roms into their folders via your computer, then back into your pi…)
But after ive restarted, still nothing.!?
Please help… i do feel like im nearly finished.!!

Have you tried leaving the sdcard in the picade and just sending them over wifi?

I’ve never actually tried a USB drive rom transfer- mostly because I never seem to have any USB drives around.

The steps seem to line up with what you did, though? https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Transferring-Roms

  1. (ensure that your USB is formatted to FAT32)
  2. first create a folder called retropie on your USB stick
  3. plug it into the pi and wait for it to finish blinking
  4. pull the USB out and plug it into a computer
  5. add the roms to their respective folders (in the retropie/roms folder)
  6. plug it back into the raspberry pi
  7. wait for it to finish blinking
  8. you can now remove the USB stick.
  9. refresh emulationstation by pressing F4, or choosing quit from the start menu

Sounds like it’s supposed to copy them from the stick to the Pi automagically.

Did you enable USB Rom service?

EDIT:
Actually I think that might be for running games directly off of the USB drive, not for transferring from a USB

#5

Follow this because it is the easiest way to do it. There are many ways to get Roma on the pi but this is the easiest. You will need a pc and USB stick.

#6

thats the way i got them on mine, without any issue

Thanks for all your replys.! Woke up to 6…!!
Ill try all these when i get in from work,
But… can someone confirm that, when u first boot up that u cant scroll left or right to show different systems until u transfer roms across.!?
Just, i cant see any systems only the retropie logo… 🙄

#8

This is correct- yes- you wont see any systems until you’ve put ROMs in place!

#9

Thanks for the confirmation.!! 👍🏻

#10

you wont see anything when scrolling left or right, unless you have added roms!!!
This one caught me too…
